Have you ever had an experience that you wish you could just wipe from your memory and never have happen again?
Have you ever dealt with someone on any level and whilst you know that you are a normal, reasonably intelligent human being your dealings with this person have been one huge fuck up and you just get deeper and deeper into crap and look like a no hoper????
Ahhhh have I got a tale for you!!
So we decide (well I nag and harp for 2 months, throw temper tantrums and make even more promises I am never going to keep) to get a new car. Big step for us. Never had a "new" new car before so it is a bit exciting and a bit scary.
We start looking around car yards. Taking some for test drives. Getting known in the local car buying scene (bit like when we painted our hallway and we got so many sample pots that the man at the paint shop knew us by name and rolled his eyes every time we went in) and generally wasting the time of many hard working sales people.
After 1 month we narrow it down to a Mitsubishi Lancer Wagon and we start dealing with M at the local Mitsubishi dealership.
M asks me if we have any land for sale at work, couple of acres, 20 minutes from he city. Think he is toking my chain so I do the old "Will look on the books and if anything comes up will let you know right away" routine. Mistake number 1 - Joey from my office sells him some land the following week that was already on the books I just didn't do my job properly and now look like I don't know what I am doing to the car sales man.
Narrow it down to two cars. A second hand one with all the features we want but without the warranties etc of a new one or a brand new one but doesn't have some of the features we want and are too scummy to pay any more money. M offers us a good trade in price on my car. Hesitate for a couple of days. M knocks $500.00 more off the already low price he is offering on either deal. Hesitate and hedge for another day. Decide to buy the 2nd hand one and M rings to tell us it is sold.
Well that decision was made for us. Yes please M we will take a red new one!!!!
M rings and says the red new one he was going to sell us sold the day before we made up our minds and there were no more in the country. Would have to wait about 3 weeks for it to arrive or we could pick another colour.
No thanks M we are happy to wait for the red one!!!! (famous last words)
So 1.5 weeks later and no calls from M. Have client in the office and go to drive her to see a property at Legana. Get in the car together and mine won't start!!!!!!
Steven (who is NOT mechanically minded) comes in from his work to look at it. Lifts the bonnet and stares for a while. Fiddles with some lead things. Stares some more and declares that he doesn't know what is wrong with it. No shit sherlock. Worry that it will not be good for my image to be seen bitch slapping my husband up the main street of Launceston so refrain with great effort from doing so.
Take the car to local mechanic and ring M to tell the sad tale. He kindly gives a loan car until mine is on the road again.
Car is fixed. $270.00. Not too bad really for a new fuel pump. Take back the loan car. Load up the kids and all my crap. Leave the mechanics and hit a pole and rip 1/2 my front bumper off my car.
After many many tears and recriminations (and that was just Steven LOL) we now have a car that is wrecked (but with an A class fuel pump) a car on the way that will probably get sunk by a freaking iceberg in Bass Strait, an argument that it still raging about how I was off with the fairies and how the hell am I going to be able to drive a new car properly and a very very fragile Sally!
Oh and to make it worse - driving home with my bumper hanging off and I pass Joey who immediately rings to take the piss out of me and find out that M lives about 10 houses away and I see him out walking with his family as I drive past.
Till next time.....
